by The MG PAC
As UNR employees, UNCE faculty and staff cannot advocate for UNCE or the MG program on work time, and doing so in their off-time may lead to their unemployment. However, to minimize or prevent the major layoffs and program eliminations from occurring this fiscal year, someone needs to advocate for us, someone needs to help us all know what’s going on, and someone needs to lead us in a coordinated response.
That’s where the Master Gardener Program Advisory Council (MG PAC) comes in. Our mission is “To represent Master Gardeners, to improve and initiate local programs, to be advocates to Master Gardeners in and for the community, and to further the mission of UNCE.”
To do that, we’ve started a letter-writing campaign which lets our elected representatives know how the issues affecting UNCE affect us and our communities (their constituents). We’re telling them that the budget cuts are unreasonable and devastating, that an enhancement to the budget is needed, that the budget should be separate from UNR’s budget so that it can’t be reallocated, that UNCE and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR) should remain independent and not be combined into one college. And we need your help in delivering that message!
Visit www.mgpac.org to see sample letters and look up contact information for your representatives. Write them today!
As always, we’re your representatives. Contact us with any volunteering-related issues you’d like addressed at firstname.lastname@example.org.
